All Sightings of Seattle Notables
If it’s the guys I’m thinking of (and, really, who else could I be thinking of…), they used to come into the REStore all the time. They lived in a small motor home on 14th near there, I’d occasionally see them entering or leaving. As far as I remember, they never bought anything (I suspect they were just hanging out), and never really said much. In the last year or so I worked there (2007-ish), I didn’t see them so much. There used to be a lot of people living in their cars on the median of 14th ave, but there was a move afoot to clean that area up, so there’s fewer and fewer these days.
I really never saw them more than like 2 feet from each other. Though, I suppose, if I /did/ see either one of them alone, I wouldn’t have recognized them anyway. One cowboy is nothing. But /two/ cowboys…

I’ve seen this guy for years, and always figured he had a Tolkien obsession. Sometimes he’s smoking a strange pipe, and he always has a metal baseball bat tucked into his pack – where you’d figure a sword would go. Sometimes he’s with the old guy, but sometimes not. He frequently reeks.
He was sitting in the outdoor seating at Peet’s alone, smoking his pipe and drinking coffee.

Boe Odyssey is his name. He used to pick up garbage on my street on the hill (near the 15th Safeway). Helped out with an art show a few years prior, where he submitted some paintings, too. Ridiculously colorful, as expected, possibly with unicorns. He came by the opening and wandered around a bit, but was fairly uncommunicative. Though actually, I had a couple phone conversations with him too, while working on the show – nothing deep, you know, just logistics.
He used one of those metal claw things to pick up the garbage and put it in a sac. It thought it was a respectable thing to do, keeping the neighborhood clean.

I don’t so much have a sighting, as much as many sightings, and information. I’ve seen Juan dozens of time throughout the past ten years, and I was always curious about him.
I have a friend who got to know Juan while she was a barista at the coffee stand outside of Nordstroms, and she told me that he’s protesting the fact that an apartment building for low-income married couples evicted him when his wife passed away, because they no longer considered him married. His view is that he will always be married.
She said that he would come into the employee lounge at Nordstroms for coffee, and only drink from a fresh pot, because he believe the CIA put poison at the bottom of the pot. Or something.
She also told me that he is not homeless, as many people believe, and that if you offer him money he will get offended and show you his wallet.

Saw Dan walking north on 15th, same side of the street as QFC. He had several days growth of beard and a really bad Do-Not-Disturb look on his face. I would too if I had just lost a beloved relative.

I was in line to pay when I heard a really familiar voice behind me greet the girl at the counter. I turned around to see which friend it was, and then felt like an idiot for not recognizing the voice before I turned around all smiley faced. Er…

I saw John Keister leaving Lottie’s Lounge. He was much taller than I expected. I looked him in the eye and smiled. He gave me a knowing head nod.

This actually wasn’t today, but I’ve lived in Montlake for the past six years and I always see Slats riding the 43 from the Hill to Montlake. He usually catches it in front of Twice Sold Tales. Generally he’s with a good-looking girl who I think heard say she’s half Asian/half Nordic (I forget which countries exactly). Sometimes they are arguing, sometimes sleeping on each other. For some reason I’m under the impression his lives with his mom.

i went through the starbuck’s drive-thru and he was standing in front with a coffee decked out in his usual trench coat. half his face was duct taped, the other half was a really weird, gross yellowish color, and he had one of those old-lady rolling carts.

This guy plays the most insipid music known to man. He was singing (i guess you could call it that) about the great american passtime of shopping, making fun of it in the bussiest tourist spot in Seattle. Why they let him play is beyond me. I truly feel sorry for the people at the bakery on the corner of pine and market

Saw ol’ Bill having dinner at Quinn’s on capital hill. It was just him and his wife and another couple. No one really seemed to even notice he was there. But after they left some guys asked the server how much he tipped. Apperantly the other guy they were with was the one that paid! HA! If I go out with one of the richest men on earth, you better believe he’s paying for my burger….

He comes in all the time, and all the employees run away to the other side of the store because he smells so bad. He usually just walks around and buys one or two things

Oh my God how weird, I just saw this guy last night, on my first bus ride since moving to Seattle. I saw him on the sidewalk waiting for a bus, I didn’t know he was a celebrity. I actually asked him for instructions on finding the right bus!

I was at Bumbershoot watching the Aggrolites perform when I spotted Crazy Scarf Guy (CSG) “dancing”. He had a whole pile of scarves around him and at one point I witnessed an onlooker take some scarves and dance with him! This guy is a crazy riot.
When I approached him to take his photo he headed towards me. BEWARE! He likes to swirl his scarves around you if you get too close.
